Airport packing hack ‘Genius’ saves money, claims travel influencer – and security doesn’t care

They are making one baggage claim this can save travelers some money.

Paying an extra $40 or more to check an overflowing suitcase at the airport can be a real pain in the pocket.

But this money-conscious hack is said to “work like a dream” for travelers with a penchant for overpacking but an aversion to overpaying.

Online, travelers agree with Woodhall, saying her tax-free packing hack works like magic. stock.adobe.com

“Travel tip,” fashion influencer Faith Woodhall wrote in her properly fashioned caption. “Take a second plastic bag full of stuff and buy a boot/bag duty free at the airport so they think you just bought stuff at the airport.â€

In the clip, the brunette, a rising reality TV star from the UK, shared visuals of herself and a friend hiding their belongings in bags from a duty-free shop – airport shops that sell duty-free goods – to avoid baggage fees.

Woodhall went on to tell over 309,000 TikTok viewers, “[This hack] it always works [like] a dream — was never charged for a second bag.â€

And it seems Woodhall and many other frugal holidaymakers have enjoyed similar success thanks to its duty-free flag.

“This is genius,” cheered one commenter under the content creator’s post.

“I’ve been doing this for years,” said another. “Works every time! There was never a problem.â€

“I did this for Ibiza last week!” A particular supporter called.

“Please don’t expose our secrets like that,” joked one cheeky jet-setter.

“This is the ultimate maths for girls,” added another, to which a maddened Woodhall wrote: “YESSSS.”

It is one of many fast fliers trying to attract in an effort to keep costs down.

However, these silly savings tricks can sometimes backfire.

A penny-pinching guy recently tried to circumvent baggage fees by jamming his clothes inside a pillowcase. Apparently, he was hoping to pass the bag off as a pillow, but the tight-lipped con artist was caught and eventually barred from a Frontier Airlines flight from Orlando International Airport.

Dylan Springer, 23, a professional dancer, donned his extra clothes at the airport, transforming into a human suitcase to bypass a $60 charge an airline was imposing on passengers carrying oversized luggage.

“I put my Birkenstock sandals on my socks and my jeans on top,” he said in a statement. “I put two books in each of the little side pockets I had on my legs, which somehow fit perfectly there.

“Then I ate some food which I just put inside one of my pockets and I had a portable charger inside my hood. I also tied a shirt around my waist.â€

Fortunately for the professional performer, his layering hustle did the trick.

“I just went straight through [security],” Springer boasted.
