Want to find out what kind of person you’re dating? Look at the couch.
A psychologist is saying that the way a person positions themselves on a couch can offer subtle clues about their personality type.
Dr. Rebekah Wanic analyzed a range of different attitudes and discovered which sitting styles indicate a need for control, leadership and other social tendencies, the Mirror reported.
Simple things like what a person does with their pillows, where they choose to sit and how they rest their legs can mean a lot, Wanic said.
Here are six of the most common types of couch potato – and what their couch tag reveals, according to the pro.
Hugging pillow
This is a telltale sign of an introvert, Wanic told the Mirror.
Those who like to cuddle with pillows or cushions often show a desire to be part of the background of a situation and look much less noticeable.
The psychology expert added that this could be a way to cover up shy or self-conscious behavior.
Crossed
The cross applesauce in crisis may actually have a deeper meaning.
Dr. Wanic said it “often shows a desire to project an image of sophistication and coolness.”
“It’s someone who wants to be perceived as polished and controlled,” she added.
Relaxing back
Those who really stretch out and take up all the area a sofa offers are “comfortable taking up extra space and enjoying their comfort,” said Dr. Waniq said.
Sitting curled up
Here’s a person who prefers function over form.
Those who most like to curl up on a sofa do so because their main interest is comfort, not the perception of others who may be around, according to the doctor.
The stool remains
People who prefer to stretch their legs on top of a stool while still sitting on a bed display a sense of practicality, the psychologist said.
It also shows a willingness to adapt to the surrounding environment.
