The Trump administration is reported to be investigating if Deepseek bought the advanced Nvidia computer chips through export control in Singapore, blocking the sale of strong technology for China -based firms.
Major technology executives, including Elon Musk and Palmer Luckey, have been skeptical of Deepseek’s claim that he trained a model at the same time with US rivals for less than $ 6 million and no more powerful Nvidia chips.
Officials in the White House and FBI are investigating whether Deepseek may have won the chips banned by third parties in Singapore to get about detention, Bloomberg reported, citing sources known to the issue.
Separately, the main lawmakers in the selected home committee for China asked the Trump administration to “provide [China] It will not use regulatory gaps and gaps to advance their ambitions.
“We ask you to look for ways to strengthen controls on shipments on third countries that pose a high risk of deviation,” letters to Trump’s National Security Adviser, Mike Waltz, told.
“For example, Singapore represented 22% of Nvidia’s income in its most recent three -month state, despite the right company discovering most of these deliveries ultimately went to users outside Singapore.”
Deepseek’s claim to develop an ultra-efficiency chatbot, so it fired a $ 1 trillion sale as investors thought that Nvidia chips were less essential to the race than previously thought.
He’s Alex’s Alexandr Wang recently ensured that Deepseek had a supply of advanced Nvidia chips that could not publicly accept because of export controls.
Representatives for the White House, FBI and Deepseek did not immediately respond to commentary requests.
Nvidia said in a state that “we insist that our partners respect all the laws of application, and if we receive any information otherwise, we act accordingly.”
Nvidia previously said that Deepseek had not violated export controls.
Earlier this week, Howard Lutnick, the nominee of President Trump’s Secretary of Commerce, assured this week that Deepseek was likely to have improper access to the Nvidia chips.
“Nvidia chips, for which they bought tone, and they found their way around it, direct their Deepseek model,” Lutnick said on Wednesday during his confirmation session. “It has to be over. If they are going to compete with us, let them compete, but stop using our tools to compete with us. So I will be very strong for that. “
In a research paper issued last month, Deepseek said he had trained its V3 model using only 2,048 of Nvidia’s H800 chips.
Nvidia specifically created H800 less for sale for Chinese firms after the Biden administration blocked the sale of more advanced chips.
In October 2023, the Biden administration also blocked the sale of H800, leading Nvidia to develop another less powerful version called H20.
The Trump administration is now considering whether to set export checks at H20, according to Bloomberg.
Luckey, who runs the defense firm of that A anduril, has been one of the most vocal critics of Deepseek’s claims.
At the beginning of this week, he exploded Deepseek to spread the “CCP propaganda” aimed at inciting doubts about America’s efforts to develop advanced.
“You have had many idiots in the US media, simply reporting that this is the case, neither China nor the media nor Deepseek have any incentives to correct the record as many US companies like Nvidia crashed into the tunes of hundreds of billions of dollars, ”Luckey said.
Meanwhile, leaders in Meta and Microsoft have confirmed that they still plan to spend hundreds of billion dollars on computer chips and other infrastructure related to it in the coming years.
