A woman was left crying in a pool of her own blood after being mauled by a pack of otters in Malaysia.

The unidentified victim was reportedly jogging through the Tanjung Aru Recreational Park in Sabah when she was surrounded by eight of the beasts, Viral Press reported.

Accompanying footage shows the water weasel octet fleeing the scene after the attack.

The bloody victim is shown after the attack. “Preliminary investigations revealed that a group of otters entered the recreation center to forage in the park’s pond,” Sabah wildlife department director Roland Oliver Niun said. “There really is a population of wild otters near the park and we also see a change in the animals’ behavior when the community feeds them.” ViralPress

Meanwhile, the woman, who was wearing dark pink tights and a black shirt, was pictured sitting on the curb in tears with blood visible on her arms and head and several scratches on her legs.

The victim was taken to hospital, while a wildlife team was sent to the park to monitor the otters.

Investigations revealed that the beasts – which are said to live nearby – had entered the park to forage in the pond, according to Sabah Wildlife Department director Roland Oliver Niun.

He explained that the otters had visited the park before without incident and that the attack was likely due to a “change in behaviour” prompted by visitors feeding them.

To prevent future attacks, wildlife officials plan to reinforce the fence around the park and monitor the area to ensure none of the creatures break through.

“We also ask the park manager to report if he has seen the otter after the repairs have been made,” said Niun.

In the meantime, the public has been asked to avoid approaching fences or interacting with wildlife to mitigate the possibility of attacks.

That might seem overzealous, but this isn’t the first time someone in Southeast Asia has been surrounded by otters – which are in the same family as honey badgers and wolves.

In 2021, a Singaporean was hospitalized after being attacked by a pack of wild water otters, who reportedly bit him 26 times in 10 seconds.

“I actually thought I was going to die – they were going to kill me.” otter– recalls devastated victims Graham George Spencer.
