Single women own millions more homes than single men in the US – and the gap is growing alone

Despite the constant gender wage gap, single women are providing homeownership at significantly higher rates than their male counterparts.

This is according to a new analysis of borrowing the US Census Bureau data, which found that single women each about 2.72 million more homes than single men, making traditional financial trends.

It’s no secret that women in the US usually earn less than men. According to the Bureau of Work Statistics, the average profits of women are only 83.6% of men.

But when it comes to home ownership, the tables are returned.

In 47 of 50 countries, single women living alone are more likely to own a home than their only male counterparts.

Across the country, single women own 11.14 million homes, while single men own only 8.42 million. This means that single women control 13.01% of houses occupied by owners, compared to 9.83% for single men. This home ownership gender gap is also increasing.

In 2022, the difference was at 2.71 million homes. By 2023, the gap expanded with nearly 15,000 other houses in favor of women.

New Mexico, Mississippi and West Virginia boast of the highest rates of homeowners with a woman.

In these countries, women living only between 14.73% and 15.26% of occupied houses with significant ownership that transcends men. Meanwhile, Delaware and Connecticut have the most pronounced gender gaps in home ownership, with women overcoming men with more than 5 percentage points in each state.

In contrast, men have a rare advantage in only three states – North Dakota, South Dakota and Alaska – where they maintain a slight advantage in homeownership norms.

How has a single woman managed to overcome men owned by home, despite earning less? The answer is not simply, but some key factors are in the game.

Experts suggest that women are more willing to make financial sacrifices to become homeowners.

Moreover, millennial women in some cities such as Alentown, Pennsylvania and Portland, Maine-actualry emerge from their male counterparts, helping them cope with homeownership. But age also plays a role. Women tend to live longer than men, meaning that many single homeowners are widows who either inherited their homes or bought new after the death of a spouse.

While single women are leading home ownership, this does not necessarily translate into greater financial security.

The study shows that women still face long -term economic fighting at higher rates than men, especially after divorce.

And while some may assume that higher levels of home ownership mean useful women financially from divorce solutions, research suggests that opposite women experience a significant financial decline after divorce.
