“It’s show time” for Jenna Ortega.
The 21-year-old actress’ clothing recently is not as strange and unusual as it may seem – at least not for the star of director Tim Burton “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice”.
The actress has been celebrating the original film’s fearsome designs with homages to the 1988 cult classic “Beetlejuice” as she promotes the sequel on red carpets around the world.
In her latest appearance for the original film, Ortega and her team got creative with a structured gray and black Harris Reed ensemble inspired by the statue made by Catherine O’Hara’s character Delia Deetz in the original film. according to designer Enrique Melendez.
The set was styled with black velvet opera gloves and a miniature model of the Deetz family’s haunted house as a bag for the London premiere.
In Venice, Ortega stunned in a custom red Dior dress with a sweetheart neckline and pleated skirt. An homage to the iconic red wedding dress of Winona Ryder’s character Lydia Deetz.
The star seems particularly fond of Michael Keaton’s character Beetlejuice’s wedding dress.
She’s honored the look twice with different updated takes on the burgundy suit.
Ortega wore a custom burgundy Paul Smith suit in Venice and a burgundy jacket dress with contrasting red blazers by Alexander McQueen and red straights in London.
For another day of press, Ortega was shot wearing a floral Giambattista Valli Paris dress with a bereaved handbag — and makeup that made her look like she was about to become one.
The bag — a reference to the creepy manual featured in the film — seems to have become a favorite accessory beloved by fans of Ortega and “Beetlejuice.”
Although the look may not match the rest of the Gothic “Beetlejuice” lookbook, Melendez revealed that the style was inspired by Geena Davis’ Beetlejuice character Barbara Maitland.
Even when traveling, Ortega has not broken his character. The actress was spotted arriving at the 81st Venice Film Festival matching Alec Baldwin’s character Adam Maitland.
Ortega wore a black and white blazer over a red T-shirt paired with a Sans Faff khaki mini skirt.
One of the looks that got the most buzz was Ortega’s close copy of Lydia Deetz’s final look.
The actress paired the outfit with a blue Thom Browne logo-trimmed sweater, white button-up collar and checkered skirt.
It was the first time she was seen clutching the handbag for the late deceased.
And what look screams “Beetlejuice” more than a pinstripe suit?
Ortega delighted fans when she wore a long-sleeve, striped jumpsuit by Dolce & Gabbana. Melendez described the look as “soft goth glam La Bella Mafia vibe” — Beetlejuice probably wasn’t wearing the designer.
Stepping out in New York City, Ortega stunned in a cropped tuxedo jacket, a semi-sheer black lace dress and matching platform heels.
A look reminiscent of Lydia’s veiled black dress.
Showing the film’s premiere in Mexico, Ortega dressed to impress in a strapless Lurline gown with a shrunken bodice molded to the structured bodice and sewn around her legs.
The unique feature is a fun nod to the shrunken heads in the ’80s film – and those that may appear in the new sequel.
Ortega walked another carpet in Mexico in patent snakeskin Mary Jane platforms inspired by the head snake in the first film.
To match the dark and spooky atmosphere of the “Beetlejuice” cinematic universe — and the shoes — the actress wore an archival Vivienne Westwood dress that Melendez said “really exists in the world” of Tim Burton.
The dress draped across the chest and under the arms in nude fabric that was covered in swirls of black quilting all over her body.
