And if President Eric Adams gets his way, the neighborhood can grow even more.
The Long Island City exceeded any other NYC neighborhood in new flats last year, adding 1,859 CONDOS and new apartments, according to a report by the Gothamistic city planning department. 4569 other units are in the pipeline for finishing.
The proposed encouragement in housing construction is part of a target, wide adjustment of the area in the neighborhood by Adams administration that, if the green light is to be given, would allow higher apartment buildings, as well as developing mixed use.
Zoning changes can result in 14,000 new homes.
Long Island City is the fifth zoning proposal specific to Adams driven, preceded by proposals for Midtown South, Jamaica, Atlantic Avenue and two East Bronx neighborhoods.
The Long Island City neighborhood plan would allow dense sea shelter and further construction on the court square.
The proposed changes include high rise to the east of Nycha’s Queensbridge houses, the Gothamist reported.
The resonation also includes the stretch loaded with 44 Drive warehouses, incorporating the site once destined to become part of Amazon’s convicted “HQ2”.
Local residents have their controls for continuous boom, however. Attendees in previous planning meetings have asked officials to expand the capacity of services such as sewers and schools before expanding further housing, Gothamistic reported. There is also severe skepticism that can be preserved affordability.
Median seeking rent at the Long Island City on March was $ 4,350, according to Streeasy, and the average required price reached $ 1.07 million.
